Towards the end of this year, Delhi Master Plan (MPD) 2021 will see over 100 modifications, as confirmed by Delhi Development Authority. Working things around a more developed and planned Delhi, the Master Plan has come out with various interesting modifications and amendments at different fronts. Around 89 modifications have already been carried out and are in their finalisation stage.

According to a DDA official, around 25 modifications have been forwarded to the Ministry of Urban Development for final notification after the due process requisite under the Delhi Development (DD Act for amendment of MPD. Currently around 64 modifications are being processed further. “The talks are on for adding a new chapter in the MPD-2021 on transit-oriented development whereas the chapter on Environment is seeing a redrafting”, as quoted by a DDA official.

Getting into the details of modifications carried out, the policies for motels, multi-disciplinary clinics for persons with learning disability and farmhouses in Delhi have also been processed. There are certain policies that are under various stages of finalisation. These include policies for temporary cinemas, modifications in floor area ratio and ground coverage in hospitals and public-private participation in land assembly development.

DDA is said to have received a total of 4,294 suggestions from people as part of public participation in the Master Plan review process. Discussions were held in six open houses. Calculating the statistics of suggestions received, around 2,310 were discussed in management action groups and 709 are soon to be discussed. There were 991 suggestions that weren’t related to Master Plan and 293 related to local bodies which have been forwarded for further action.

The action groups of different management had 39 meetings in total discussing relevant suggestions of which the recommendations were raised in nine meetings of the advisory group headed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Under Section 11A of the DD Act, the modifications recommended by the advisory group are placed in front of the DDA for further processing.
