‘Save the city’: RWAs fight mix land use policy

If Resident welfare associations (RWAs) have their way, the authorities will be forced to end the mix-land-use provision.

The RWAs across the Capital have launched ‘Save the City’ campaign in protest against rampant mix land use in the city’s planned localities.

They alleged that “no scientific survey has been done yet before carrying out the plan”, which has led to rampant commercialisation of residential colonies, thereby adding to the burden on civic infrastructure.

They claimed that mixed land use has “made the residential areas unfit for living.”

Several citizen groups have also challenged the plan in the Delhi High Court. As part of the campaign, the RWAs will meet Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.

“The mix land use is an attempt to fill available open spaces in residential areas without proper planning.

“The important issues like sanitation, safety, availability of spacious roads have been not taken into consideration before implementing it.

“The planned colonies are the major sufferers of the mix-land-use provision in the Master Plan of Delhi 2021,” said Rajiv Kakria, a citizen activist in Greater Kailash-1.

“We are lenient towards the development of unauthorised colonies, for which other plans are being drafted.

“However, commercialisation will turn planned plotted colonies into disorganised upscale areas,” said Kakria.
