DDA’s plan for development besides Metro corridors

Dated: 9th August 2013

Improvisation over the MPD-2021 has been taken up by DDA which would boost residential besides commercial and recreational development in the peripheral regions of Delhi along with linear “facility corridors” in areas marked for urban extension. These facility corridors will link bus terminals and Metro stations in the tangential regions.

After reviewing the master plan, the committee has already approved the proposal and it is placed for public opinion – their suggestions and objections. The opinions should reach within a time limit of 45 days.

According to a senior DDA official, once the suggestions arrive, they would be discussed and even incorporated if needed. After that, the proposal would be placed in the authorities’ meeting and then it would be sent to the Union Urban Development Ministry for approval and notification.

Areas like Najafgarh, Ghitorni, Kanjhawala, Bawana and Burari will see a new face of development after the proposal gains the final approval. The DDA official also acknowledged that intense development is planned along Metro corridors with focus on maximum number of people using the mass transit system.  Mr.Ramesh Menon of Certes Realty thinks that this initiative will prevent unplanned and unintended growth.
