ABOUT DELHI
GEOGRAPHY
A centre for arts & culture for long, Delhi is located at 28°61N, 77°23E .It adjoins the states of Uttar Pradesh in the east, and Haryana from three sides of West, South & North. The NCT of Delhi is spread over an area of 1,483 km². Approx. 783 km² of it was designated as the rural and 700 km² as urban. Most of the above statistics is bound to change with the advent of the new master plan MPD 2021. It is spread over about 52* km in length & 49* km in width.

CLIMATE
The climate of Delhi is SEMI-ARID. The climatic conditions through the year have high variations, especially between summer and winter. Summers are between April to October, with the monsoon season starting the last week of June. The climate starts to turn cold from the middle of October and the winter lasts till February. It peaks from the latter half of December and remain till January end.
DEMOGRAPHICS
The population of Delhi, as per the census 2001 was 13,782,976.
- The population density as per the last census was enumerated as 9,294 persons per km²
- The Sex ratio of Delhi is estimated to be 821 women per 1000 men.
- The literacy rate as per 2001 survey is estimated to be 81.8%.
- The population is estimated to have increased to 15.3 million by 2004.
- Some estimates project the current population of the city to be around 17 million, making it one of the most populous cities in the world.
- Together with the surrounding cities (which are include in the National capital territory of Delhi), Delhi is one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
- By 2015, Delhi & Mumbai are expected to be amongst the top most largest and densely populated cities in the world.
EDUCATION & RESOURCES
Special emphasis is afforded in Delhi for the growth of education and the development of human resource capital.

Another positive aspect would be that female students represented 49% of the total enrolment.

The Delhi government spends approximately 1.5 — 2.0% of the gross state domestic product on education.

The initiatives of the government, as well as the private sector are likely to bring in exponential growth in the increase of the educational institutions in the NCT of Delhi.

ECONOMY
- Delhi is the second largest commercial business centre in south Asia after Mumbai, with an estimated net State Domestic Product (SDP) of INR 830.85 billion. (FY 2005 estimates)
- As per FY’05 statistics, Delhi’s per capita income of approx. INR 54000 is approx. 2.5 times of the national average.
- All three sectors of primary, secondary & tertiary contribute to the economy of Delhi, which has a very conducive business climate. To the total SDP, tertiary sector contributes 70.95% , followed by secondary and primary sectors with 25.2% and 3.85% contribution respectively.
- Delhi’s workforce constitutes 32.82% of the population showing an increase of 52.52% between 1991 and 2001.
- Delhi’s unemployment rate decreased from 12.57% in 1999 – 2000 to 4.63% in 2003.
- Delhi is poised to take a giant leap towards the creation of better infrastructure favouring the service sector and the MPD 2021 is a positive step in that direction.
